To enhance their knowledge of systems in communities, students worked in groups to conduct interviews of various department heads including the library to understand how the systems at school work. Each group enthusiastically and efficiently conducted the interviews and shared this information with the others. Students are now exploring various organisations within a community. During their English lessons, students watched a video on how to syllabicate a word using various strategies. With help of an activity, ‘Break the word’, students categorized the word given to them into 1, 2, 3 or 4 syllables. Students developed note taking skills by summarizing a small paragraph. Math class saw the students recapitulating previous concepts of number names, predecessor/successor and odd/even using 4-digit numbers. They collaborated on several group activities and used their thinking and social skills to solve problems presented to them. They enjoyed establishing real life connections on how we use these concepts in our everyday lives. During their Hindi lessons, students appreciated a poem, ‘Desh bada ho jaayega’, through visual summarization. They also practised essay writing and couplets with help of mind maps. They recapitulated grammar concepts like ‘sangya’ (noun) and ‘visheshan’ (adjective) and made simple and meaningful sentences. For their French lessons, students watched a video - “Corde a Sauter” and recalled phrases to improve their pronunciation and vocabulary retention. Students took a virtual tour of the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre museum for a closer look at these sites. Students reviewed the alphabet with help of videos and associated sounds with them so as to frame the correct words during Spanish lessons. They were also introduced to basic greetings for self-introduction as well as to communicate in groups. During ICT, students were introduced to the elements of a survey. Using Microsoft Forms, they created an online survey for understanding systems in school. In dance class, students continued to practice dance at different speeds of music to improve clarity of movement and honed their confidence. Students learned different patterns and major scales of Indian and western music during music engagements.
In art, students discussed the history of ‘still life’, as a work of art, with help of a presentation. As part of Physical Education, students practiced their skills in forehand and backhand drive under the unit - badminton.

Students began the new academic session with an ice breaker activity to identify connections and things they have in common with other individuals in the class. They did this by passing a ball of string to create a web. Students tuned into the new unit through a brain storming activity to identify what was common in the welcome boards and to guess the unit they were to inquire into. They discussed where they had heard the word “systems” before and made a mind map of their understanding of systems. They collaborated and found out the importance and role of systems. Students are now inquiring about creating a new classroom system and implementing it in the class. During their English classes, students watched a video “Jarvis the Jelly”. They identified a learner profile attribute from the video and wrote its meaning in their process journals. They were divided into groups of four and enjoyed playing the game – name, place, animal and thing. They were asked to recall proper and common nouns. Students enjoyed an activity called ‘Switch Pair.’ In this activity, each pair was given a piece of card in which one student wrote five common nouns and the other student wrote five proper nouns. The card was then switched between the two and they wrote a common noun for every listed proper noun and vice versa. Math classes began with a game called “Secret Number.” Using hints provided to them, students identified numbers in groups. They attempted several looping back activities, after which they tuned into the concept of ‘place value system.’ The class was divided into groups and with the help of various manipulatives, students explored different ways of assigning values to each digit in a number. During their Hindi lessons students discussed essential agreements and learner profiles through the video ‘Chatur geedad’. They also practiced writing sentences ‘Mera parichay’ (introduction) through a mind map. Students modified their verbal skills through recitation of the poem ‘Desh bada ho jaayega’. Students were excited to be back for ICT classes and had a discussion about their holiday assignment and their experience with using various apps and devices. They were introduced to Google Maps. They renewed their essential agreements in collaboration on a Padlet wall. Students were asked about their interest in Spanish and were given an introductory lesson about the language. They were exposed to songs based on Spanish alphabet letters as well as conversations in Spanish to make them familiar with the pronunciation. Students were made to pronounce alphabets in Spanish and were motivated to communicate in groups of two, wherein they were introduced to basic greetings. Students learnt a few French greetings and alphabet through songs and later spelled their names in French language correctly and confidently. Dance classes had the students tune into the elements of dance and musicality. They tried harmonizing steps to different speeds of music, a routine that will help them in improving line and form. For Music, the students have been initiated to the Indian national song - "Vande Mataram" and a patriotic song - "Maa tujhe salaam".
Art classes began with the students exploring the art space. They discussed essential agreements as well as the art exhibition theme: “Fire and Ice” on road safety. Children, during PE lessons, were introduced to the basic techniques in swimming such as bubbling, floating and kicking. They were also briefed about the safety rules to be followed during swimming class. |
